After training in general medicine and gastroenterology in London, Jeremy and his wife travelled to far north North Queensland in 1992, lured by an image of Whitehaven beach in the Whitsundays in the BMJ! His interest in substance use problems developed in the hard-drinking mining town of Mt Isa, where he was Director of Medical Services and general physician at the Base Hospital. Since 2004, he has been Clinical Director of the Alcohol and Drug Service in North Brisbane. His interests include treatment of opioid use disorder, he is investigating CYP 2D6 activity in patients with codeine related opioid dependence.
