Expert webinar

Understanding treatment options for opioid use disorder and how to formulate an individualised treatment plan

Watch our Winter 2024 educational webinar led by Professor Michelle Lofwall and joined by Dr Andrea Johansson Capusan.

Listen to our experts highlight all the key elements of treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD), a chronic, relapsing disorder with significant burden. The faculty discuss the properties and principles of key medications, including their mechanism of action and the advantages and disadvantages of each therapy. With a focus on achieving remission, patients may have differing goals and support needs, and this session shares the factors to consider when choosing treatment options to ensure that an individualised treatment plan is developed.

The agenda covers the following learning objectives:

  • Explain the different mechanisms of action behind the most commonly used treatment medications
  • Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of methadone and buprenorphine and why certain individuals may be more suited to one therapy over another
  • Outline other factors that need to be considered when formulating a treatment plan
  • Outline the importance of psychosocial support regardless of the pharmacological agent used

Who is the webinar for?

This 60-minute expert webinar is suitable for both primary and secondary care clinicians looking to improve their care and management of patients with opioid use disorder.
